Water and Sewage Monitoring
Ensure efficiency with water and sewage monitoring: Advanced IoT solutions for control, analysis and real -time management of sanitation.

Challenge
Remotely communicate PLCs spread in various units of the large Brazilian city water and sewage system.
Solution
Multiplexing of PLCs serials over the internet through a virtual serial canal.
The customer's demand was to control and telemetry from various points of the water and sewage supply system of a large Brazilian city. The high cost of acquiring and maintenance of dedicated lines (LPS) made the performance of these tasks highly and continuously. The Operational Control Center, located at the client's headquarters, needed permanent communication with the PLCs located at these points.
Project Requirements:
- Reliable and stable communication with the PLCs spread throughout the city, many in hard -to -reach areas;
- Accessible cost of the solution;
- Possibility of connecting via Ethernet or Serial in the same equipment for standardization and integration with the various PLC models.

Several technologies were tested and each demonstrated weaknesses, such as low robustness or communication instability. LPs, for example, often had stolen strands. Already the communication solutions via wireless network were unfeasible for source of visa and distance. Satellite communication, in turn, had a very high operation cost of operation.
In addition to these difficulties, there was also a complicating factor: multiplexing of serial networks for PLC communication through the cellular network. Among several competitors, Above-Net was the only one capable of crossing this barrier and delivering a reliable, high availability and excellent cost benefit solution.
The solution is made up of a 3G Router connected to the PLC, which in turn connects to the various equipment at the stations. The router remains permanently connected to the BridgeManager mobile connection management system and is able to inform the supervisory the access path of each device connected to the PLC. This way, the customer can monitor various equipment safely and reliable through a cellular connection only.
