How to choose a Rugged Tablet

Which Rugged Android Tablet Should You Buy? It's because? If you need a tablet that can withstand harsh conditions and offers advanced security features, a rugged Android tablet might be the right option for you. But with so many options available, it can be challenging to determine which industrial tablet is best suited for your needs. The first thing to consider is the durability of the tablet. A rugged tablet must be able to withstand drops, shocks, and extreme temperatures. Look for a model that has been tested and certified to meet industry ruggedness standards.

Some certifications can serve as an indicator of resistance, such as MIL-STD-810G – for equipment certified for severe military use, and IP ratings, which indicate resistance to dust and water using two digits. The higher the number, the greater the resistance.

IP Resistance Rating

IP  Numeral: 0-6  Numeral: 0-9  Numeral: 0-9  single letter
mandatory  mandatory  mandatory  No longer used

optional

The code that defines the degree of IP protection is made up of 3 digits. The first refers to solid particles, the second to the liquid medium and the third to resistance to mechanical impact (no longer used). The code can be expressed, for example, in the following ways: IP 54, IP 67, IP 68.

First digit:

  • 0 – Not protected
  • 1 – Protection against solid objects with a diameter of 50 mm or more
  • 2 – Protection against solid objects with a diameter of 12.5 mm or more
  • 3 – Protection against solid objects with a diameter of 2.5 mm or more
  • 4 – Protection against solid objects with a diameter of 1.0 mm or more
  • 5 – Dust protection
  • 6 – Dustproof

Second digit:

  • 0 – Not protected
  • 1 – Protected against drops that fall vertically
  • 2 – Protected against drops that fall vertically with the body tilted up to 15°
  • 3 – Protected against water spray
  • 4 – Protected against water spray
  • 5 – Protected against water jets
  • 6 – Protected against powerful jets of water
  • 7 – Protected against temporary immersion in water of up to 1 meter for 30 minutes
  • 8 – Protected against continuous immersion in water
  • 9: Protection against immersion (for 1 m) and resistant to pressure.
  • 9K – Protected against water from steam jets and high pressure

Performance and Battery

In addition to durability, performance is another critical factor to consider. Look for a rugged Android tablet with a powerful processor, ample RAM, and storage capacity to handle your apps with ease. The tablet's battery life should also be enough to last a full day of use without needing to be recharged.

Connectivity

Another factor to consider is the tablet's connectivity options. A rugged Android tablet should come with built-in WLAN, BT, and GPS capabilities to stay connected and productive in the field. If you need to stay connected to cellular networks, look for a tablet with 4G LTE or 5G connectivity.

Resistance

When it comes to Industrial Mobility, durability is key, especially if you work in sectors such as construction, field service or transport. Above-Net 's tablet platform is built to withstand even the harshest environments, with a rugged design that can withstand drops, dust and water.

But durability is only one part of the equation. When it comes to performance, Above-Net 's industrial tablet ecosystem offers: the latest technology, including Qualcomm MSM8953 Octa-core 2GHz processors and a variety of RAM and storage options. These tablets deliver lightning-fast app performance so you can get things done faster and more efficiently.

It is important to note that the update of processors, memory and Android versions of the industrial line does not follow the tablet market for the end consumer. As these devices are focused on functionality combined with cost-benefit, version and component updates are slower, following the requirements of field services and the usage profile that these devices are designed to fulfill. In other words, you should not compare the processor of rugged tablets and smartphones with the processor of tablets and smartphones for personal use.

Many companies adopt commercial tablets with shock and drop protection. These solutions may be valid as a palliative measure, but they do not offer the resistance and durability of robust industrial tablets. Battery life, operation at high temperatures, resistant screen and appropriate connectors are just some of the features found only in robust equipment.

Finally, as it is a manufacturer of its own line, with patents on the market, Above-Net offers the best cost on the market, making it possible to purchase this equipment, which generally has a prohibitive price when compared to big brands.

“With our experience acquired over more than 20 years in the Robust Mobility market, we have developed a line of equipment with the main features requested by customers. Cellular communication modules, 1D and 2D barcode reader, WiFi, Bluetooth, RFID and biometrics, in very resistant construction equipment from the plate, with no moving parts or points of failure, to the coating, which translates into high resistance and durability in heavy everyday use. In addition, processors and memory that meet the requirements of the most used systems in the industry guarantee performance for non-stop operation. Count on our team to find the ideal model for your mobility project” Rafael Pougy, Project Manager at Above-Net

So why is Above-Net 's rugged tablet ecosystem the best Android tablet to buy? It's simple: durability, performance, versatility and price. Whether you're working in the field, in a factory, or in an office, these tablets are designed to meet the needs of modern businesses. So if you're in the market for a new Android tablet, consider Above-Net 's rugged tablet options.
