THE PROBLEM
COMMUNICATION DIFFICULTY FOR LARGE-SCALE APPLICATIONS
Legacy LP and twisted-pair communications are either no longer used or are prohibitively expensive to operate. Wireless network communication solutions are unviable due to line of sight and distance issues. Satellite communication, on the other hand, has very high operating costs.
The standard architecture of cellular data network communication makes it impossible to manage remote connections and equipment without a human presence at the monitored site.
Each time the connection drops, the IP address would need to be manually reestablished. Furthermore, security regulations and carrier protections prevent direct access to the cellular router.
CASE DETAILS
The client tested several technologies, but all presented poor robustness or communication instability. LPs, for example, frequently had cables stolen and are no longer supported by carriers.
Another complicating factor: the multiplexing of serial networks for PLC communication over the cellular network. Above-Net was the only company able to overcome this barrier for the customer and deliver a reliable, highly available, and cost-effective solution.
The solution consists of a 3G/4G RTU connected to the PLC, which in turn connects to various devices in the stations. The router remains permanently connected to the Bridgemeter , which can inform the control center supervisor of information via MODBUS protocol or the access path of each device connected to the PLC. This allows the customer to remotely monitor and control various devices safely and reliably through a reliable and stable cellular connection.
