LoRa (Long Range radio) technology can be used in various telemetry and monitoring applications. Its biggest advantage is its range, which can reach a distance of 15km, and the low power required for transmission. It's no wonder that LoRa equipment is widely used to transmit information from remote units when power is limited, using long-lasting batteries (8-10 years)
There are several cases where LoRa can be used. Recently, we implemented a sanitation monitoring application in the interior of São Paulo state, in a mountainous region where cellular data signal is only available on the ridges adjacent to the equipment installations. Therefore, it would be unfeasible to implement an IoT monitoring solution using only Above-Netcellular gateways and RTUs.
The solution was to create a local LoRa network between the points, which are an average of 2 km apart, connected to a LoRa Cellular gateway for transmission via a 3G link.

All equipment and installations were sized for the critical environment with grounding and high protection against surges and lightning strikes, as well as battery backup, and the solution is capable of indicating in real time the failure of electrical systems involved in the monitoring.
In addition to reservoir levels, we monitor pressures, pump status, temperature, current, and equipment voltages, indicating anomalies and deterioration in operating conditions, automatically triggering procedures for the maintenance team.
Above Above-Net is a company with extensive engineering experience in local or remote industrial network communication, and is therefore able to customize monitoring and telemetry solutions for any environment where communication conditions are poor. Together with Bridgemeter , our industrial IoT platform, we drastically reduce customer travel and maintenance costs through continuous monitoring of the treatment plant.
